The Intersectional Environmentalist Collective UK

Register Your Interest

The IE Collective UK was founded by Enna Uwaifo in June 2024 to advance partnerships at the crossroads of socio-economic realities, racial and environmental sustainability. Rooted in the experiences of Afro-diasporic multicultural heritage, the core mission is to incubate economic inclusion and capacity within Black and Global Majority communities to contribute to the wider environmental sector.

We are developing an emerging youth-focussed idea-to-project incubator in the intersection of cultural and creative art and science collaborations to advance the economic inclusion of multicultural communities in the environmental sector and social entrepreneurship.

We aim to is to equip Black and Global Majority communities with the skills, tools and strategies needed to address the environmental crisis and 21st-century challenges through economic justice principles through leveraging and building youth power and innovating the practice of co-creation.

We believe that the unique vision, perspectives, cultural heritage, creative works and expertise of Black and Global Majority communities hold the key to unlocking innovative, scalable solutions for challenges of the 21st century. With the right advice, support and guidance, these communities can create lasting impact in both the UK and the global environmental sector.

The Steering Leadership Team

Kelsey Parsons (She/Her) - Global Sustainability Officer at Gunnebo Entrance Control

“My professional interests are in international environmental governance, corporate governance for sustainable futures, sustainability marketing, ESG compliance and action plans, creative arts to translate the climate crisis, decolonisation of sustainability in developing countries and diaspora(climate, structures -economic and political- that are barriers to just sustainable development).

With a unique creative outlook, I champion all pillars for sustainability through working with communications, product innovation, people empowerment, ESG compliance, corporate decarbonisation activities. My experience in running campaigns and events around cultural and social matters and drive for excellence and passion for equality and environmental justice has lead me to engage in youth led work both as a team member and a leader.”

Lucia Ene-Lesikar (She/Her) - Interdisciplinary Creative and designer currently independent

“A Founding Student of the London Interdisciplinary School, I am studying complex problems through the lens of different disciplines and working hand in hand with different policy partners to help them tackle various issues.

I am incredibly inspired and passionate about sustainable urban design, specifically in an African context, working holistically to create effective and powerful urban solutions, particularly focused on empowering marginalised communities and using traditional indigenous knowledge to inform the future of urban design.”

We believe that Black and Global Majority communities are hubs of innovation and problem-solving. Our mission is to channel strategic investments into grassroots initiatives within communities most impacted by 21st-century challenges.

What’s With All The Climate Jargon?

This Intersectional Environmentalist Community meeting was held on the 13th August and 27th August 2024. We discussed the implications of the use of the term “climate change” and barriers to engagement in climate and environmental action in the UK and beyond through informal focus sessions with climate and environmental experts from racialised communities.

This report intended for individuals and organisation interested in partnering with us to engage multicultural communities in the UK with climate and environmental action. You will have a sense of what our collective all about and the innovative methods we seek to bring into the UK's environmental sector.
